Healthcare cash plan provider Sovereign Health Care is to expand into the intermediary market.
To lead this move, the Bradford-based not-for-profit has appointed Luis Weston as its new head of commercial sales.
He joins the business at a time when senior management are targeting sales growth and strengthening its impact on health outcomes through its cash plan business and community programme.
Weston (pictured, centre) brings 20 years of experience in the health insurance and employee benefits sector to Sovereign having worked for advisers, corporates and in direct distribution channels.
In a previous role he was a director at Willis Towers Watson responsible for delivering strategic, health-related benefit programmes for smaller companies and large corporates.
He has also spent almost 12 years managing multi-million-pound corporate accounts at Bupa UK.
Sovereign does not have shareholders, so reinvests any profit into the business and donates to health and wellbeing charities and community initiatives.
Weston will lead sales across business and consumer markets, overseeing the commercial strategy and sales leadership, strategic partnerships and market development.
Better health for everyone
Neil McCallum, Sovereign’s chief executive, (pictured, left) said the firm believes in better health for everyone and are ambitious about the impact it can have on its customers and communities.
“Appointing Luis is a key part of our strategy as we look to engage with intermediaries and the wider market.
“Luis brings significant commercial expertise to Sovereign and we are excited about the part he will play in our growth.
“His appointment is an important step in our growth strategy as we continue to innovate, strengthen our offering and help more people access affordable healthcare solutions.”
Weston described this as an at “exciting” stage in Sovereign’s development.
“The organisation has a proud heritage, a strong customer proposition and a genuine commitment to improving access to everyday healthcare.
“I look forward to working with colleagues and partners to build on Sovereign’s commercial presence and help more people and businesses benefit from its products and service,” he added.
