Employee benefits provider Unum has said that increased interest from family members is one reason behind a major rise in the number of registrations for its health and wellbeing and remote GP service.

The provider said that one in six (16%) of bookings for its Help@hand service were made for partners and children.

Over 8,400 appointments were booked via the Help@hand app in 2020. The service now has over 250,000 eligible users and more than 1,100 businesses signed up.

Almost one in ten (9%) of medical appointments were made for children’s medical appointments in July last year.

Unum’s analysis also shows that 97% of remote GP appointments have been offered within two hours of initial customer engagement or within two hours of a customer’s preferred time (if later) while a similar number (96%) of mental health support and physiotherapy appointments have been offered with two working days.

Peter O’Donnell, CEO of Unum UK, said that 2020 was “an extremely difficult year for us all:.

He said: “We are proud to be able to give employers, employees and their families the vital support they need – whenever they need it.”
